This year a series of events has been running for the eleventh
time and has taken place from 6th November until 12th
December. During that period the 12 wine-growing villages
from Ajdovščina and Vipava municipalities’ area
(Brje, Duplje, Erzelj, Goče, Gradišče pri Vipavi,
Lokavec, Lozice, Planina, Slap, Vipava, Velike Žablje and
Vrhpolje) and over 70 providers from Vipava Wine Route will be
presented with their wine, cuisine, cultural and artistic
offer.
The farms are well-marked by lit petroleum lamps and bunches of ivy
branches. The visitors can buy a glass for tastings with a logo of
Vipava Wine Route and the name of the representing wine-growing
village.
All events take place at weekends.
In the Vipava Enotheque two theme evenings will take place – at the first the visitors will be introduced the grape varieties Malvasia and Barbera, and at second the grape variety Merlot. Both wine evenings will be led by wine expert adviser Ms. Tamara Rusjan from Agriculture and Forestry Institute in Nova Gorica.
During the period of the event also three “osmica” invite to visit them. The custom of “osmica” started at Hapsburg emperor Maria Teresa’s time (18th century) when she allowed the farmers to open the doors of their farms twice a year for eight days in order to empty their supplies and in that way improve their economics status. Nowadays visitors are offered to enjoy in home-made food and drinks.
From the economic point of view and to add variety to the offer the event turned out to be a successful and original approach for wine marketing and lifting of meaning and awareness of wine drinking culture. People do not only taste the new wine but also try and enjoy themselves in traditional Vipava cuisine. In the whole period of the event there are about 5.000 visitors from different parts of Slovenia and from abroad and in that way the whole Vipava Valley becomes more recognizable.
If you haven’t been able to join us and taste the wine, born to the sun and wind, yet, we invite you to visit us. You are very welcome to Vipava Valley.
